Psalm 121

“I rejoiced in those things, which were said to me: we shall go into the house of our Lord."

Recto:  14 lines of text in Latin written in an accomplished gothic bookhand on vellum.   Ruled in red. One two-line illuminated initial 'L' in raised and burnished gold outlined in black on a ground of pink and blue with black and white penwork. Four similar one-line initials.

Verso:   As Recto, with five similar illuminated one-line initials and two line fillers.

Origin:  Northern France.

Date:   c.1450.

Content:  The leaf is from The Office of Our Blessed Lady at Terce.  The text on Recto begins with the last verses of Psalm 120 (KJV121).  Then the two-line illuminated initial 'L' begins Psalm 121 (KJV122) which continues on Verso.

Laetatus sum in his, quae dicta sunt mihi: in domum Domini ibimus.
Stantes erant pedes nostri: in atriis tuis Hierusalem.

(I rejoiced in those things, which were said to me: we shall go into the house of our Lord.
Our feet were standing: in thy courts O Jerusalem.)

Condition:  The leaf is in very good/excellent condition.  There is light browning and a few tiny spots at the edges, but the block of text with its brightly shining illuminations on both Recto & Verso is in perfect condition.   The leaf is unconditionally guaranteed genuine.

Size:  Leaf: approx. 145x100 mm.  Please note that shipping is invoiced separately.
