Bendigo is in the Central Goldfields region, a pleasant 2 hour drive from Melbourne. There is much to see along the way, both Castlemaine and Maldon offer mining history, a wide variety of cafés and restaurants, wonderful 19th century streetscapes, steam train, galleries - you get the picture. Bendigo itself has much to interest the visitor, it is now a sophisticated city with all the attractions and amenities you would expect.
