Verso: Text in Latin printed in red and black in two sizes of a gothic typeface on watermarked, laid paper. Two two-line and numerous one-line initials printed in red. Rubrics in red. A large (50x45mm) historiated woodcut initial ‘L’ enclosing an image of God holding a sceptre and orb and surrounded by cherubs. The initial is formed of acanthus leaves, columns and scrolls. Emerging from the bottom section is a man who clutches a column The initial is coloured by hand; the subdued palette and sketchily applied brushwork suggest contemporary colouring.

Content: The text beginning at the woodcut initial ‘L’ reads:
Lex domini irreprehensibilis convertens animas: testimonius dei fidele sapientam prastans parvulis.
(The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul: the decree of the Lord is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple).
Condition: The leaf is in fine condition, expertly printed and unblemished apart from a few wormholes in the inner margin. Original margins and a clear watermark. Archivally mounted. Guaranteed original.
